Counselling
What is Counselling? In this instance it is a short term series of sessions (e.g. 4-7) of one hour each to address a particular problem, by providing coping skills and strategies. This often enables a person to deal with an issue with greater confidence, clarity and resourcefulness. I tend to use counselling techniques, if required, in association with other therapies, to help mind, body and spirit holistically heal itself.
Cognitive and Behavioural (CBT):Developed as a result of research into how we learn. Works to change patterns of behaviour to more healthy ones – to think and act differently. Solution focused, it makes use of practical techniques and homework. No in depth exploration of the past unless it is relevant to present behaviour. Short term What issues or problems might be helped? Stress * Relationships Anxiety and worry. * Rows with friends/family Feeling low/depressed * Bereavement Anger or jealousy * Feeling unmotivated Low self esteem * Feeling unhappy Assertiveness/bullying * Deliberate non self-care Loss of confidence. * Difficulty relaxing.
